I’m stoked to share that I finally achieved a major goal of mine – earning my blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! This journey has been a rollercoaster, filled with intense training, moments of self-doubt, and the sweet taste of victory.

It all started at the beginning of the year when I set my sights on that blue belt. I was training consistently, pushing myself to improve my technique and stamina, and feeling confident in my progress. However, in October, disaster struck. I suffered a thumb tendon injury that threatened to derail my entire plan.

After trying to push through the injury, I realised the pain was increasing – to the point using a mouse at the computer was starting to become uncomfortable. It was time I accepted that I needed to back off; otherwise, I wouldn’t get to the grading at all!

Suddenly, I was forced to step back from the training I’d been accustomed to. No more rolls, no more pushing my limits. It was a tough pill to swallow, especially with the grading looming on the horizon. Doubt crept in, whispering insidious questions: Would I be ready in time? Was I going to be able to do it?

But amidst the uncertainty, I consciously decided to trust the process. I knew that I had put in the work, and even though my cardio might not be at its peak, my understanding of the techniques was solid. I focused on what I could do – drilling the movements, visualizing the rolls, and maintaining my mental game.
